Forest fire in Brazil’s Amazon rainforestThe Amazon rainforest, often referred to as the 'planet's lungs', is undergoing destruction due to forest fire.

Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE) said that there is more than 80% increase in forest fire compared to the previous year.
 	Copernicus, the European Union's satellite program has released a map showing smoke from the fires spreading all along Brazil to the east Atlantic coast.
 	The smoke has covered nearly half of Brazil and is spilling over into neighbouring countries like Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay.

According to INPE, more than one acre of the Amazon rainforest is being destroyed every minute of every day.

The Amazon rainforest is home to countless plants and animals.

It is called the 'planet's lungs' because it produces 20% of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere.
 	The Amazon rainforest also plays a big role in slowing down global warming.
 	Therefore scientists warn that if governments are not taking urgent measures to control the fire, the effect will be bad for everyone.
