Now, the 45th G7 Summit is being held Biarritz in France from 24th to 26th August 2019.

The focus of the G7 Summit 2019 is "the fight against inequality".

What is the G7 summit?

The G7 summit is an annual meeting (held since 1975) of leaders from the 7 countries considered to be the largest 'advanced' economies in the world.
 	The G7 countries are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
 	Additionally, the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council attend the summit too.
 	They also invite some other nations and international organisations to attend. This year, leaders of Australia, Burkina Faso, Chile, Egypt, India, Senegal, Rwanda and South Africa have been invited.

What is the purpose of the G7 summit?

The leaders discuss various important topics relating to the economy, climate, global security, etc. This year, the fire in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil will also be a topic.
 	At the end of the summit, they issue a communiqué, outlining what has been agreed on. However, this year, there will be no communique.

Criticisms

There are no G7 members from Africa, Latin America or the southern hemisphere.
 	This omission is seen as not reflecting the changes in global politics or economics, leaving out big, fast-growing economies like China, India and Brazil.

Often, big demonstrations also take place around the summit.
