Giraffes for Kids – The world’s tallest land animal!

Recommended for Foundational Grades

Have you ever seen a giraffe? Our cute little story on “Giraffes for Kids” will share interesting information about these long-legged animals.

You would have to look up, up and more up to be able to see its face.

A few interesting facts about Giraffes!

Giraffes live in Africa. These herbivores can live up to 25 years.

They are the world’s tallest animals.

  • They can reach an amazing height of up to 19 feet.
  • A giraffe’s legs alone are taller than most people —about 6 feet. Do you know how tall you are?
  • Their long legs help them to run fast over short distances.

Long Necks and Always Hungry!

These gentle giants, the world’s tallest land creatures, are well-known for their long necks. Adult males can reach heights of up to 5.5 metres — that’s the height of three adults! And oh my goodness, these guys are hungry! They munch leaves and bushes at a rate of up to 45 kg each day!

We must take care of this beautiful creation and make sure it does not become extinct.

      Dear Maahi

That is really nice. I am sure you would have seen a Giraffe family. Children should see different types of animals and their behaviours. Its really interesting.

      Stay curious!

did you know that a giraffes tongue is purple

      • curioustimes says:

Thanks, Sanaa for sharing this. This is a very smart point.

Giraffe’s 50cm-long tongues can appear purple, bluish or almost black in colour. This is due to the density of dark ‘melanin’ colour pigments in them.
Since Giraffes eat almost throughout the day, extra melanin provides extra Ultra Virus protection, preventing their tongues from getting sunburnt.

Keep contributing your thoughts, ideas and our miss outs. Stay curious!
