Government makes Hajj process fully digital
Recommended for Hajj Pilgrimage
India has become the first county in the world to make the Hajj process completely digital.
- Hajj is a pilgrimage by Muslims to Mecca in Saudi Arabia performed in the last month of the Islamic calendar every year. Mecca is the holiest city for Muslims.
- Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Hajj & Umrah Minister Mohammad Saleh to ensure smooth travel for Indian pilgrims.
- According to the agreement, all major processes for Hajj, such as application forms, visa, health records, managing luggage and accommodation status can be done online.
- The SIM cards of the passengers will be linked with the Hajj mobile app to get the latest information.
- Digital pre-tagging will help the pilgrims (those going for Hajj) to get information about their place of stay before leaving India. They will know their room number, building and also how to reach there from the airport.
- The Government of India will provide health cards to all travellers in India, while in Saudi Arabia, they will be given the e-Masiha health facility. This system will have information about the health of each pilgrim along with doctor’s prescription and medical treatment to deal with any emergency.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs has successfully digitized the Hajj process as part of the Digital India campaign. This will help make the Hajj process easier, convenient and transparent for the pilgrims.
In 2020, a total of 2 lakh Indian Muslims will perform Hajj.
