Govt to conduct one test for railway, bank, central govt jobs from 2021Last week, the government announced that from 2021, there will be one common test for several government jobs - railway, bank and lower-level central government jobs.

The Minister for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh made the announcement.

The common test will replace the first level tests conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).
 	This common eligibility test (CET) will be conducted online.
 	The central government will set up an autonomous (independent) National Recruitment Agency (NRA) to conduct this online test.
 	Currently, all these exams are conducted separately on different days at exam centres all over the country.

What will be the features of the new system?

Candidates will apply through a common website, pay one exam fee and prepare from one syllabus.
 	NRA will set up exam centres in each district and prepare a standardised (common) question bank with multiple questions.
 	Each candidate will receive a different question paper (created from the question bank).
 	Candidates will receive exam scores online and they will be valid for a 3-year period.
 	For now, the exam will be held once a year but in the future, it will allow candidates to appear for the exam at a time of their convenience.

How will this benefit people?

The minister said that it will cut down on unnecessary travelling costs for people who have to appear for these exams from different locations. Every year, 2.5 crore people appear for such exams.
 	It will also cut down on costs for the agencies who conduct the exams.
