Greenland ice sheet is melting to submerge the US

Recommended for Secondary Grades

Greenland’s ice sheet is melting at an alarming rate, and if we don’t take action, the US could be submerged in half a meter of water! That’s right, half a meter! How crazy is that?

Important Details

  • So, what’s causing all of this melting? Well, the main culprit is the changing climate conditions. Scientists say that the climate in the Arctic region is warming faster than any other place on the planet. And the melting ice from Greenland is a major factor in the rise of oceans on Earth.
  • According to research findings from the Polar Portal, Greenland’s ice sheet has lost enough ice in the past 20 years to cause this potential disaster.
  • The images of the ice sheets are taken from satellites through the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment Programme (GRACE) launched by NASA. The satellites’ images show that there is extreme ice melting near the Arctic coast, and glacier fronts are also melting, all due to global warming.
  • But don’t worry, we can all do our part to help. We can start by planting more trees and taking care of nature, who takes care of us like our mother. It’s time for us to step up and make a change before it’s too late.
