National Teachers’ Day!

Today, in India, we celebrate this wonderful day to give thanks to all teachers for their contribution to society.

Many countries celebrate World Teachers’ Day on 5 October. But in India, we celebrate it today, 5 September.

This date marks the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Key facts!

  • Dr S. Radhakrishnan was India’s first Vice President and second President.
  • He was a great teacher and thinker who dedicated his life to education.
  • He was born on 5 September 1988.
  • On Teachers’ Day, generally, schools have different activities to honour teachers.
  • The President of India also presents the National Award for Teachers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on this day.
  • This award ceremony honours those teachers who enriched the lives of students and improved the quality of school education.
  • Teachers play a very important role in who we become in our lives. So, do show your appreciation on Teachers’ Day!

Fun Do It Yourself Activities

Activity 1: Virtual Thank You Card

Objective: To create a virtual thank-you card for your teacher to show your appreciation.

Instructions:

  1. Open a drawing app on your smartphone.
  2. Use various colors and tools to create a virtual card.
  3. Add text to the card to thank your teacher for all their hard work.
  4. Save the drawing and email it to your teacher or share it via a classroom app like Google Classroom.

Activity 2: Video Message

Objective: To record a heartfelt video message thanking your teacher for their support and help.

Instructions:

  1. Open the camera app on your smartphone and switch it to video mode.
  2. Record a short video message thanking your teacher. Make sure to speak clearly.
  3. Watch the video to ensure everything looks and sounds okay.
  4. Send the video to your teacher via email or upload it to a classroom app.

Activity 3: Online Scavenger Hunt

Objective: To find and share a poem, quote, or fun fact that represents what you admire about your teacher.

Instructions:

  1. Open a web browser app on your smartphone.
  2. Search for a poem, quote, or fun fact that makes you think of your teacher.
  3. Take a screenshot of what you find.
  4. Share the screenshot with your teacher by email or through a classroom app.
