Mushrooms are not plants. They belong to a family of organisms (kingdoms) called fungi’. Most of them are saprophytes, which means they depend upon dead or living matter for food.

Fun facts about Mushrooms!

  • It is not possible to eat every kind of mushroom. There is a possibility that some are poisonous.
  • Because of the high nutritional content of edible mushrooms with fleshy and edible fruit bodies, these mushrooms are commonly consumed.
  • They may manifest themselves either below or above ground, and they may be gathered from the wild or grown in controlled conditions.
  • There are more than twenty different varieties of mushrooms that are grown for commercial purposes.
  • Protein, fibre, potassium, vitamin D, calcium, B vitamins, copper, and selenium are all components that can be found in mushrooms.
  • They have characteristics that inhibit the growth of bacteria.
  • They are also beneficial to your immune system and can assist in lowering cholesterol levels.
  • According to research, they may even be helpful in preventing or treating diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, high blood pressure, and Parkinson’s disease.
