Healthy Kids and Adults: Functional Foods!

Recommended for Middle Grades

Let’s start our story with a look back at a fun song from an old movie from 1956. The song is called “Mera Nam Abdul Rahman, Pistawala Main Hun Pathan.” This song makes us think that nuts like pistachios, almonds, cashews, and walnuts came from other countries and not from India. But that’s not true!

A smart man named Dr. K.T. Achaya wrote a book called “Indian Food.” In it, he tells us that these nuts have been in India for a very, very long time.

Even Charaka, a very important doctor who lived around 100 BC and knew a lot about Ayurvedic Medicine, said these nuts were good for our health.

So, let’s dive into this story to learn more about these nuts and why they are so good for us!
