Several districts in Tamil Nadu have been hit by heavy rainfall. Totally unexpected this brings normal life to a screeching halt. Chennai for example has received a  heavy downpour all of a sudden. This led to waterlogging on the streets, many people were left helpless and traffic jams were a common sight.

Moreover, people who were returning from the office had to make a U-turn and head back to their offices. Thousands took to the Metro as people tried desperately to reach home.

The Chief Minister has surveyed most of the areas hit by heavy rains. The state authorities are trying their best to help the people in need.

What is surprising is that the sudden rains in Chennai are not evenly spread across which puts certain parts/areas under more pressure. Although the weather experts did predict a rainfall no one expected such heavy rainfall. Weather experts predict that the rains will continue till Jan-3.
