Here is an easy history of ‘Cold War’!

Here is an easy history of ‘Cold War’!After the Second World War, the United States and the Soviet Union became the two superpowers in the world.

So what did they do?

Both of them believed in a different model of organizing socially and economically. The United States followed the principles of capitalism and the Soviet Union believed in socialism (even harder communism).
 	They were both extremely powerful countries and forced all the other countries to join forces with one of them.

Were they in a state of war?

There was never ever really a war between the two powerful nations.
 	 But a lot of small wars were fought in other countries like Afganistan, South Korea and Vietnam.
 	They built powerful weapons and continued to threaten each other.
 	They followed a policy called MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction. What this means is that if they start fighting they will surely kill each other, because they have arms and ammunitions and also allies (countries, who joined them).

So then what was the cold war?

George Orwell called this war The Cold War. 
 	What he meant was a war that is not actually being fought but weapons are being built and a lot of tension is always being created.
 	A lot of treaties and packed got signed between the 1940s till the 1990s to keep peace and not have actual war.
 	These treaties also defined the relationships of allies with the United States and the Soviet Union.

The first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru created a movement called NAM or Non-Aligned Movement. He said that India and its friends will not join forces with any of the big nations but would stand for peace for everyone.

After the Soviet Union broke up in the 1990s the cold war came to an end.
