IIT-Bombay creates new post boxes, postal trolleys for India PostThe India Post is looking to improve its brand image by moving on from just letter deliveries to offering citizen-centric services and joining the e-commerce deliveries.

So, a design team from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Bombay is going to help with this endeavour.
 	Maintenance-proof post boxes, lightweight postal trolleys, manual stamp collection machines, gumming device and mail-carrying bag — are some of the innovations that IIT-B's Industrial Design Centre (IDC) has created to modernise the India Post.
 	These products have been designed under Professor BK Chakravarty, who had worked as the chair professor for India Post earlier.
 	 India Post has also started using a conveyor belt at its Parel, Mumbai hub. It'll also soon start introducing automated sorting systems across the country.
 	The IDC has also developed computer-based artwork to produce high-quality handstamps, which will make use of laser technology for etching customised stamps on parcels.

Earlier, TCS had carried out a modernisation drive for the India Post.

India Post has the most widely distributed postal network in the world. Once upgraded and digitised to suit the changing times, it could be used to benefit every nook and corner of the country.
