Finance Ministry announces Union Budget for 2021-22

Today, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced India’s Union Budget for 2021-22.

What is a budget?

A budget is a plan to show how much money a person or organization will earn and how much they will need or be able to spend within a fixed period of time.

This year, for the first time ever, it was a paper-less budget, with the minister announcing the budget to the Parliament from her tablet.

A big focus of this year’s budget is on healthcare and infrastructure to increase economic activity. India’s budget for healthcare has gone up by 137% as compared to previous years.

Gold and silver, leather goods, nylon clothes, iron, steel and copper items are expected to be cheaper. But mobile phones and chargers, solar cells are expected to become more expensive.

Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty takes over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff

The Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) is the deputy head and second-highest ranking officer of the Indian Army. Lt General CP Mohanty trained at the Rashtriya Indian Military College in Dehradun and the National Defence Academy. He first entered the Rajput Regiment of the Indian Army on 12 June 1982.

Cinemas to run at full capacity from 1 February

Starting today, cinema halls across the country will be permitted to operate at 100% capacity. But they must follow COVID-19 safety protocols.
