India-China clash at the border in Sikkim

There was a clash between Chinese and Indian troops on 20 January 2021 at Naku La in north Sikkim. Officials said that it was a “minor incident” where a Chinese patrol tried to enter Indian territory and was forced back.

This news comes after it was recently found that a Chinese village has been built near the border in Arunachal Pradesh. Though this area is Indian territory, according to official government maps, it has been under Chinese control since 1959.

India’s billionaires became richer during the lockdown while the majority got poorer

This is as per a report called The Inequality Virus by the Oxfam organisation. While billionaires got 35% richer, 84% of households income loss. 1.7 lakh people also lost their jobs every hour, in April 2020 alone.

Farmer protests

Farmers protesting against the centre’s 3 farm laws are all geared up to carry out a tractor march on Republic Day. The farmers’ union reached an agreement with the Delhi Police to carry out the tractor march peacefully. Farmers have been protesting for nearly two months now.

The first woman to lead the flypast in the Republic Day parade

Indian Air Force’s Flight lieutenant Swati Rathore will lead the flypast. She is a part of the 2016 batch of IAF where she was the only one selected for the flying branch, out of a group of 200 female students.
