India receives unanimous endorsement for UNSC non-permanent seat

India receives unanimous endorsement for UNSC non-permanent seatThe Asia-Pacific group of countries at the United Nations has unanimously* endorsed* India’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

This will be for a two-year term (2021-2022).
 	India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin tweeted the information.

India considers the unanimous endorsement as a diplomatic succes.

The Asia-Pacific group of countries include 55 Member states which included Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan,  Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Papua New Guinea among others.

About UNSC:

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the organs of the United Nations.
 	  It is responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security.
 	The UNSC consists of fifteen members.
 	Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, and the United States serve as the five permanent members.
 	The remaining 10 non-permanent members are elected on a regional basis and serve two-year terms.

*Unanimously - without opposition; with the agreement of all people involved.

*Endorse - declare one's public approval or support of.
