India Travel Diaries – Kochi, Kerala!Kochi, also known as Cochin, is a culturally and historically rich port city situated in the state of Kerala.

Kochi is known as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea".
 	It is located between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. 
 	This port city is spread over many islands and crisscrossed by the sea and backwaters. These features make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in India.
 	Kochi was the centre of the Indian spice trade for many centuries.
 	It had trade relations with Arabs, Yavanas (Greeks and Romans), Jews, Syrians and Chinese since ancient times.
 	Thus, Kochi was the gateway of old India.

Major attractions of Kochi

Fort Kochi - You can see buildings and structures from when India was a colony.
 	Willingdon Island - a large man-made island.
 	You can also see local fishermen use large Chinese fishing nets to catch fish.
 	Visit the Dutch Palace in Mattancherry, constructed by the Portuguese in 1568.
 	Jew Street and Paradesi Synagogue - one of the very few functional (sill working) synagogues in India. Jews lived in this area until the creation of Israel.
