India’s “Floating Post Office”

India's only floating post office is located in the beautiful city of Srinagar in Kashmir.

It may even be the world's only floating post office!

This unique post office is a huge houseboat (Shikara) in Dal Lake.
 	It has existed since British times (when India was a colony of British).
 	The heritage post office was renovated (changes made) in 2011 by the department.
 	That year it was renamed from 'Nehru Park' post office to ‘Floating Post Office’.
 	The office has two cabins -  one is an office and another works as a museum.

Here  your mail gets stamped with a special Kashmiri seal depicting a shikara and a boatman, and a special pin code: 190001.

Next time you visit Srinagar you could send a postcard back to your friend from the only floating post office in the world!
