Indo-Tibetan Border Police to get special cold climate clothingAround 60,000  soldiers are deployed with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at high altitudes. They guard almost 3500 kilometres of India's frontiers at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

Earlier, only those ITBP men who were at 12000 feet or above were eligible to receive special cold climate clothing.
 	However, last year the policies were revised and now, even those soldiers who are stationed at 9000 feet in the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are going to receive the protective gear required for such heights.
 	More than 15000 personnel are set to benefit from this change in policy.
 	These ITBP personnel are deployed at difficult and very cold terrains up to an altitude of 18,900 feet.
 	There are 5 specific places - 3 in Ladakh and 1 each in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh that India and China have a dispute over. Hence, they need surveillance round the clock.

The personnel have also been provided with high-grade mountaineering equipment.
