Inspirational Stories 2018: Swapna Barman, the HeptathleteSwapna Barman was born in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal in 1996. She was born with 6 toes on each foot. She loved sports.

Her Father was Rickshaw Puller who later became bed ridden and her mother worked at tea estate. Swapna’s family situation made it difficult for her to buy right kind of food for an athlete and suitable shoes for her feet.
 	Swapna did not get disheartened but worked harder. Sports became her means to earn money for herself and her family.
 	Swapna’s success came when she became the first Indian to win a Gold Medal in Heptathlon at Asian Games 2018 despite a very painful tooth infection and a swollen jaw.
 	Heptathlon is a combined events contest made up of seven events – 100 metres hurdles, High jump, Shot put, 200 metres, Long jump, Javelin throw & 800 metres.
 	Her training is supported by GoSports foundation through the Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Programme.

Her story is that of extra ordinary grit and courage to follow for your dreams despite all difficulties.
