Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Get ready to meet a super cool and super young environmental superhero! Her name is Umasri Pujyam and she’s only 15 years old. But don’t let her age fool you, because she’s taking on a big mission to save the Godavari River in India.
How awesome is that?
Important details
- Umasri was born in Ponnamanda village, which is near the Godavari River. When she visited her birthplace, she was shocked to see the terrible condition of the river. It was polluted and filled with trash. That’s when she knew she had to do something about it.
- For the past two years, Umasri has been leading a campaign to clean up the river. She has organized over 100 clean-up days, where volunteers from the local community come together to remove the pollution from the river. She’s not just cleaning up, though. Umasri is also teaching people about proper waste disposal and how to reduce their impact on the environment. She started an organization called ‘Youth Against Water Pollution’ to raise awareness about this issue.
- Even though Umasri lives in the USA, she has made several trips to India to work on her mission. She managed her time by staying in India for months while attending virtual classes. Talk about dedication!
- In an interview, Umasri explained that her village heavily depends on agriculture, but due to water contamination, people have to buy water instead of using the river. She’s also concerned about the harmful effects of chemicals used in farming, which end up polluting the river. That’s why she took it upon herself to clean up the river and protect the environment.
- Umasri is not just doing this all by herself. She has collaborated with local officials, politicians, and even Members of Parliament to make a bigger impact. She’s working towards better environmental policies and conditions in the area. Way to go, Umasri!
- And guess what? Umasri has big dreams for the future. She wants to become an environmental engineer so that she can continue to make a difference in the world. With her passion and determination, there’s no doubt she’ll achieve her goals.
- In conclusion, Umasri Pujyam is an extraordinary 15-year-old girl who has taken on the mission of cleaning up the Godavari River. She’s leading the way in raising awareness about water pollution and environmental issues.
- With her hard work and dedication, she’s showing us that anyone, no matter their age, can make a difference in protecting our planet. Keep up the fantastic work, Umasri!
