Iran admits to accidentally shooting Ukrainian airplaneYou have been reading about the US-Iran conflicts. A Ukrainian plane crashed in Tehran on 8th January 2020. However, Iran has now admitted that it shot down the airplane accidentally.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said that it fired a missile and accidentally shot down the Ukraine International Airline. It admits that this was a ‘human error’.
 	The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has assured the Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky that those who made the error will be punished.
 	The Iranian government has denied trying to cover up the accident.
 	The missile strike was in response to the killing of the Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani by the US on 3rd January.
 	There are protests in Iran over the crash. Thousands of protesters met at Tehran’s Azadi Square on Sunday. The protests have spread to other cities of Iran including Shiraz, Hamedan, Esfahan and Orumiyeh.
 	The protesters are demanding the resignation or ouster of senior government officials.

On the international front:

US President, Donald Trump, has been tweeting in support of the protestors.
 	The five nations affected by the crash will soon meet in the UK.
 	The European Aviation Safety Agency or EASA has asked airlines to avoid flying over Iran.
