Ketanji Brown Jackson is selected to serve on the Supreme Court

The Senate has confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson to become the first Black woman to serve in the Supreme Court. She was nominated by President Joe Biden as the Supreme Court nominee.

Ketanji’s confirmation represents a victory for Democrats in the nation. This is also a major milestone for the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary.

Judge Jackson was confirmed to take a seat in the Supreme Court with 53 to 47 votes. Three Republicans also joined all 50 members of the Democracy in backing her.

Ketanji Brown Jackson will take the oath after Justice Stephen Breyer retires. Until then, she will remain in her current position in the US Court of Appeals. She will take care of the cases on the DC Circuit as she has been doing.

Jackson’s Term as the Justice

The confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson is a major achievement for US President Joe Biden. In the 2020 election campaign, Biden promised that he would appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court.

Jackson will be the second-youngest member of the court after Judge Barrett who is 50-years old. She will be the first-ever public defender to serve as Supreme Court Justice. During her first term, she will solve cases that involve race in both college admissions and voting rights. Jackson is also a member of Harvard’s board.
