Leading by example – Dr Rajendra PrasadLast week, we read about Jagadish Chandra Bose, a renowned Indian scientist.

Today, we will read about Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. He was also one of the prominent leaders of the Indian freedom movement.

Dr Rajendra Prasad (3 December 1884 - 28 February 1963) was the first President of independent India.
 	He served as a leader of the Congress Party and also drafted the Constitution of India.
 	He was greatly inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's principles and dedicated himself to the freedom struggle after meeting Gandhiji.

Dr Prasad, along with other leaders including Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Lal Bahadur Shastri, led the freedom movement.

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian award.
 	Dr Prasad was also a noted writer, who wrote many renowned books. They include India Divided, his autobiography Atmakatha, as well as Bapu Ke Kadmon Mein and more.

Early Life

Rajendra Prasad was born in Bihar.
 	He was a brilliant student throughout school and college. He completed Masters in Law and went on to do his doctorate in law, hence, the title 'Dr'.
