Leading by example – Ratan TataRatan Tata is one of the leading Indian industrialists. He is also a philanthropist and head of the largest Indian business group - Tata Group of Companies.

Ratan Naval Tata was born on the 28 December 1937.
 	He is the grandson of Tata group founder Jamsetji Tata. 
 	He graduated in architecture from Cornell University. He also studied at Harvard Business School.
 	Ratan started his career as a shop floor (lowest grade) employee at Tata Steel. After working his way up, in 1991, he became the group chairman of Tata Industries.

Ratan Tata holds the senior-most posts in various organisations across India and is also a member of the Prime Minister's 'Council on Trade and Industry'. 
 	He made history in the Indian automotive field by launching the US$2,200 Tata Nano, the world's cheapest car, in 2008.  Ratan called the Nano as "The People's Car."

Ratan Tata is greatly admired for his pioneering ideas and positive outlook in the business sector. He is also well known and respected for his generosity - he is a supporter of education, medicine and rural development, and considered a leading philanthropist in India.
