Legislative assembly elections in India, 2021Legislative assembly elections are currently underway or will start in four states and one union territory (UT). They are - Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (UT).

In Assam, the election is being held over three phases - 27 March, 1 and 6 April 2021. Voters will elect 126 MLAs (Member of Legislative Assembly). 64 seats needed for a majority to form the government.

In West Bengal, the election is being held over several phases - from 27 March to 29 April 2021. Voters will elect 294 MLAs. 148 seats are needed for a majority.

In Tamil Nadu, elections will be held on 6 April 2021 to elect 234 MLAs. 118 seats are needed for a majority.

In Kerala, the election is scheduled to be held on 6 April to elect 140 MLAs. 71 seats are needed to form the government.

In Puducherry, the election is scheduled to be held on 6 April to elect 30 MLAs. 16 seats are needed for a majority.

The results of all the elections will be declared on 2 May 2021.

Apart from the above, parliamentary by-elections will be held for some Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Legislative assembly by-elections will also be held in many states including Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana and Odisha.

By-elections are held when a Member of Parliament or legislative assembly has died or left suddenly, without completing his/her term.
