Lioness adopts a leopard cub in Gir National ParkHave you heard of the Gir National Park in Gujarat? It is the only national park in the world where you will find the rare Asiatic lion.

Recently, a study emerged, about a lioness (female lion) in the park who once adopted a leopard cub!

Why is this remarkable (amazing)?

Adoption between different species does happen but this is the first-ever instance recorded where two competing species have displayed such a relation. (Leopards and lions compete over the same kind of food).
 	 Previously, such an incident was recorded for only 1 day in Tanzania, Africa in 2017.

What is the story about?

In January 2019, wildlife experts were surprised to see a lioness taking care of a leopard cub, along with her own two cubs, in the Gir National Park.
 	Experts observed the group for 29 days and recorded their findings.

What happened next?

Unfortunately, the leopard cub died on 11 February 2019. However, it was not because of any injury but due to natural causes as it had been born with a disease.

The wildlife experts could not understand why the lioness did this but this is short but sweet incident shows that we are still to learn so much about animals.
