As of 1 March 2020, the government of Luxembourg has made all public transport (trains, buses, etc) free for everyone.

Where are some facts about Luxembourg?

Officially known as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, it is one of Europe's smallest countries and has a population of only around 6 lakh people.
 	Its neighbours are Belgium, Germany and France. One can reach Luxembourg' s capital, Luxembourg City, from its neighbouring countries by car in half an hour.
 	However, despite the size, it is one of Europe's richest countries. Luxembourg City is one of the four official capitals of the European Union (the other 3 are Brussels, Frankfurt, and Strasbourg).

Why has Luxembourg made all public transport free?

Even though its population is low, Luxembourg suffers from major traffic jams.
 	Its rich economy and availability of jobs means that many people drive from its neighbouring countries for work, leading to bad traffic jams.
 	So, the government aims to encourage people to use public transport more frequently, lessening the number of cars on the road.
 	It will also be better for the environment.
