MANI – a new RBI mobile app for the visually-challengedThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a new mobile application called Mobile Aided Note Identifier (MANI) on 1 January to help visually-challenged (blind) people in identifying currency notes.

How does MANI work?

Users can download the app called 'MANI'. It is available for free on both Android Play store and iOS App store.
 	The currency notes have to be scanned using the phone camera and then MANI gives audio output in Hindi and English.

What are the special features of MANI?

Once installed, the mobile app does not require internet and works in offline mode.
 	The app is capable of identifying both the old and new series of currency notes.
 	It can detect notes by checking the front or back even when it is half folded in different ways.
 	It also works in various light conditions like, normal light, daylight, low light etc.

Currently, MANI app is not capable of differentiating genuine or fake currency. Hopefully this feature will be added in future.
