Mental illnesses seem to share a common pattern!

Mental illnesses seem to share a common pattern!There are a number of mental illnesses that might be caused by a common connection in the brain. Researchers found that there seemed to be a link between different types of mental illness and the same basic pattern.

This common brain pattern could help explain why so many people with one mental illness also meet the criteria for a second one.
Key facts!

Experts state that certain "parts" of the brain had been linked to mental problems in the past.
Some haven't, and instead are linked to important parts of how the mind works, like paying attention and mental processing.
If you knew how the common patterns worked, you might be able to figure out how weaknesses in these activities might lead to different mental conditions.
In addition why these conditions might be more likely to happen together?
The report suggests, "Scientific researchers should look into the brain's inner links instead of just focusing on the various brain regions that all of these links lead to."
To make a map of these connections, the researchers looked at data from more than 190 studies.
They then compared the grey matter of people with mental problems to the grey matter of people who did not have mental issues.
Surprisingly, though, the illnesses shared the same complicated web of connections between some of the brain's inner areas.
Scientists say, "This means that the areas of the brain with changed grey matter could be different for each illness, but they seem to be linked to a common pattern across illnesses."
Experts believe that it might be possible for doctors to treat psychiatric symptoms by changing how one part of the network works.
Scientists also think that one day, it will be possible to treat a wide range of diseases.
Even though these kinds of treatments are still just ideas at the moment.
