NASA engineer proposes an idea for a fuel-less engine that can reach light speed

NASA engineer proposes an idea for a fuel-less engine that can reach light speedRecently, we read about NASA's all-female spacewalk. It is a great achievement and travelling to space continues to an important part of human beings' technological advancement.

Now, a NASA engineer, David Burns, has proposed an alternative for space travel that could send a craft running through space 'close to light speed'. Mr Burns belongs to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, US.

If it is possible, then travelling to space will be changed forever.

According to Mr Burns, this can be done with the help of a helical engine. This engine works on pushing a particle accelerator back and forth along a helix. The mass increases and decreases when moved in forward and backward direction.
 	The design follows Einstein's theory of relativity and produces a thrust up to 99% the speed of light.
 	However, it also violates Newton's law of motion which says that an action always has an equal and opposite reaction. Thus, for now, it is still debatable.

According to Mr Burns, the engine should be 656 feet long and 39 feet wide to be successful. In addition to this, the helical engine can only work properly in a frictionless environment (deep space).

Let us wait and see if and when such amazing technology will come into existence soon.
