NASA fixes problem with Hubble Space Telescope

NASA fixes problem with Hubble Space TelescopeEarlier, we had read that there was a problem with the Hubble Space Telescope and a part of it had stopped working. On 13 June, one of the computers onboard the telescope went down (stopped working). This is the payload computer, which operates the spacecraft’s scientific instruments. Without it, the instruments which take pictures and collect data are not working.

Now, finally, after more than a month, they managed to find a solution. Now, the Hubble Space Telescope should begin operations again soon.

Initially, NASA had thought the problem was with Hubble's very old computers. But then, later, they focused on its bigger and more encompassing command and data unit. Spacewalking astronauts had installed them in 2009. Then, engineers were successfully able to switch to Hubble's backup payload computer. Now, the computer has started working again. NASA had conducted a similar repair in 2008 as well.

NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope in 1990. Since then, it has made more than 1.5 million observations of the universe.

NASA plans to retire Hubble after it launches the James Webb Space Telescope, by this year.
