National Workshop on Street Vendors

‘National workshop on Street Vendors’ was inaugurated by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi on Feb 8, 2019.

Mr. Puri said, “Street vending provides a source of self-employment and helps alleviate urban poverty. Most of the states have notified their rules under the Street Vendors Act.“
 	The Street Vendors Act 2014 focusses on building a positive ecosystem for street vendors, as it provides self employment to urban poor. The urban street vendors constitute upto 2.5 % of the population of the city.
 	The workshop is organised as a part of the Shehri Samridhi Utsav. It aims to bring all the states and stakeholders together to learn from each other on how to implement Street Vendors Act. 
 	The 10 days Shehri Samridhi Utsav, is an initiative to support National Urban Livelihoods Mission.

There is also National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) also known as Aajeevika scheme, which was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) in June 2011.

NRLM is supported by the World Bank.
 	NRLM aims at creating efficient and effective institutional platforms for the rural poor to increase household income.
