New Bridge Brings Fast Trains Closer!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Exciting news! The construction work on the second bridge for the incredible bullet train project has been finished. This special bridge is being built to connect the cities of Mumbai and Ahmedabad, making travel faster and more convenient for everyone.

Building the bridge was not easy, though. The kind people from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) faced many challenges. One big challenge was the high tides in the Purna river, located between Bilimora and Surat stations in Gujarat. The river kept rising every two weeks, making it hard to work on the bridge’s foundation.

But our amazing engineers and workers didn’t give up! They closely watched the tides in the Arabian Sea and worked hard to finish the bridge. The Purna river bridge is 360 meters long and has nine big girders that help support it. The piers, which are like strong pillars, are 10 to 20 meters tall and four to five meters wide.

Important Details

  • This is the second bridge completed out of the total 24 river bridges planned for the bullet train project. Twenty of these bridges will be in Gujarat, and the other four will be in Maharashtra. The first bridge, built over the Par river, was finished in January this year.

  • Officials state that more exciting things are happening. They are working on a very long bridge over the Narmada river in Bharuch, which will be the longest bridge in Gujarat. They are also busy constructing bridges over other rivers like Sabarmati, Mahi, and Tape.

  • Guess what? Just a few days ago, on June 8, the NHSRCL signed a contract to build a 21-kilometer-long tunnel, including India’s first undersea tunnel! This tunnel will be 25 to 65 meters deep and will go under the Thane creek. It will be a special tunnel because it will have tracks for both the up and down trains.

  • The NHSRCL expects the bullet train to be ready for us to use in 2026. Isn’t that amazing? Soon, we will have a super-fast train that will take us from Mumbai to Ahmedabad in no time at all. We are all excited and can’t wait for this incredible project to be completed!

  • Stay tuned for more updates on this fantastic bullet train adventure!
