Scientists have found a new use for it.

Researchers from Sydney, Australia have managed to develop a method that uses durian and jackfruit waste to create energy stores for rapid electricity charging.
 	Imagine, using plants and fruits to store electricity that charges commonly-used electronics such as mobile phones, laptops etc!
 	The researchers purchased durian and jackfruit from the supermarket and converted the fruits' thick peels (biomass) into supercapacitors.

What are supercapacitors?

Supercapacitors are energy reservoirs (sources) that release energy smoothly. They can quickly store large amounts of energy within a small device and then supply energy to charge electronics within a few seconds.
 	Using a method called Green Engineering, the researchers heated the biomass in water and freeze-dried it, transforming it into carbon aerogels - an extremely light and porous synthetic material.
 	Carbon aerogels make great supercapacitors because they are highly porous.
 	The aerogels were then used to make electrodes which were tested for their energy storage properties and found to be exceptional.
