India’s Nikhat Zareen wins gold medal at IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship
- Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal at IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship by defeating Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the flyweight (52Kg) finale in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Nikhat Zareen was born in Nizamabad. She is a former junior youth world champion.
- After her win against her Thai opponent, she becomes the fifth Indian woman boxer after Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL and Lekha KC to win a gold medal at World Championships.
Nikhat Zareen’s winning strategy
- Against her Thai opponent, she fought brilliantly and earned the gold medal.
- She impressed the judges in the first round as she landed more punches than the Thai boxer.
- The second round was hard and Jitpong Jutamas won the round with a score of 3-2. In the last round,
- Nikhat Zareen won the match with a score of 5-0 in her favour.
- It is India’s first gold medal in boxing since Mary Kom won it in 2018.
- She took full advantage and she maintained her dominance against Jitpong Jutamas.
- He tried to fight back in the second round but could not pull up his game.
- Clear punches and hitting straight at the opponent are key factors that led Nikhat to her win.
- Along with Nikhat Zareen, Manisha and Parveen won bronze medals after their semi-finals finish. India earned three medals, one gold and two bronze at the Women’s World Boxing Championship.
- Also, it marked the 20th anniversary of the Women’s World Championship.
- India’s medal tally has gone up to 39 medals, including 10 gold, eight silver and 21 bronze medals.
