Nirmala Sitharaman places 34th on Forbes’ World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list

Nirmala Sitharaman places 34th on Forbes’ World’s 100 Most Powerful Women listUnion Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is ranked at 34th place on Forbes' World's 100 Most Powerful Women list for 2019.

Ms Sitharaman is a new entrant to the list. She is India's first full-time female Union Finance Minister. She previously held the post of Union Defence Minister.
 	German Chancellor Angela Merkel has topped the list again, for the 9th year in a row.
 	President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde is second and Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi ranked third.
 	Other Indians on the list include HCL Corporation CEO and Executive Director Roshni Nadar (54th rank) and Biocon Founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (65th rank).
 	Also on the list is Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ranked 29th.
 	Other famous women on the list include Melinda Gates (6), New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern (38), Rihanna (61), Beyonce (66) and Taylor Swift (71) and Serena Williams (81).
 	16-year-old environmental activist Greta Thunberg is also on the list (100). She is one of 23 newcomers on the 2019 list.

Forbes' World's 100 Most Powerful Women is a list of the 100 most powerful women in the world, compiled annually by Forbes magazine since 2004.
