P.T. Usha to guide Indian Olympic Association!

P.T. Usha is expected to win the election and become the first woman to hold a key position in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

What is Indian Olympic Association (IOA)?

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is in charge of choosing the athletes who will represent India at the Olympics, Asian Games, and other international sports competitions.

She is also one of the eight Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOM). She was chosen by the Athletes Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This makes her a member of the electoral college.

Some of the other people in the IOA’s electoral college are athletes. This includes P V Sindhu, Gagan Narang, Sakshi Malik, Yogeshwar Dutt, and M M Somaya and others. All of whom have won Olympic medals.

Nearly 25% of the people in the IOA’s electoral college are athletes. Ms Usha is the first woman to take on both of these jobs.

  • Ms Usha is one of the athletes who has earned the most medals for India.
  • She went to the Asian Games from 1982 to 1994 and won a total of 11 medals, four of which were gold.
  • At the Asian Games in Seoul in 1986, she won the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter hurdles, and 4×400-meter relay races.
  • And in the 100-meter race, she won the silver medal.
  • Ms Usha won gold in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Asian Games in New Delhi in 1982.
  • She ran in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles, 4×100-meter relay, and 4×400-meter relay at the Asian Championships.
  • The Asian Championships were held from 1983 to 1998.
  • There, she won an incredible 23 medals, 14 of which were gold.
  • But she is best known for the final of the 400-meter hurdles race at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
  • She will also be the first Olympian and first international medalist to lead the IOA in its 95-year history.
