Today is the Parsi new year, also known as Navroz.  This day is celebrated to mark the beginning of the Parsi Calendar. 'Navroz' means 'new day'.

In India, the Parsi New Year is celebrated prominently in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
 	On this day, people clean and decorate their homes. Then they dress up in traditional attire and visit the fire temples to pray for prosperity.
 	People offer milk, flowers, water, fruits and sandalwood to the sacred fire at the temple.
 	On this important day, people also give food to the poor and needy.

History of the Parsis

Parsis follow the religion of Zoroastrianism. Prophet Zarathustra founded Zoroastrianism in ancient Iran approximately 3500 years ago.
 	Navroz is also known as Jamshed-i-Nouroz. This is named for the Persian King Jamshed, who introduced the Parsi calendar. 
 	Parsis in Iran and other countries in the Middle East celebrate Navroz on 21st March. This is because they follow a different calendar called the Fasli calendar.
 	In India, they follow another calendar called the Shahanshahi calendar. So, according to this calendar, India's Navroz happens a few months after the Fasli calendar Navroz.
