A palaeontologist studies the history and process of evolution by examining fossils.

This field of science which deals with the fossils of long decayed animals and plants that lived up to billions of years ago is called Palaeontology.
 	It's an interdisciplinary field involving geology, archaeology, chemistry, biology, and anthropology.

Palaeontologists also specialise in different research areas such as micropaleontologists (who study microscopic fossils), palaeobotanists (who study plant fossils)and palynologists (who study pollen and spores).

Palaeontologists conduct fieldwork to search for fossils and collect samples.
 	Many are employed as faculty members (professors, etc) in the geology departments of colleges and universities, museums, government geological departments and in oil companies to search for petroleum.
 	A Ph.D. is usually necessary for a career in palaeontology. One should have a wide knowledge of biology and geology.
 	Extensive field and lab experience are also vital to become a qualified palaeontologist.
