People form a human chain to stop BMC from cutting trees in MumbaiOn 1st September, around 300 people in Mumbai formed a human chain to stop the BMC from cutting down trees.

Background of the story

The Mumbai Metrorail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) recently got an approval from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to cut down 2,702 trees in order to build car shed for metro 3 in Aarey Colony, Mumbai.

MMRCL committed to planting thrice the number of trees that will be cut.
 	However, most of the people in Mumbai opposed this decision.
 	They put up around 8 lakh complaints against the decision.

In spite of this, the metro authorities did not back down.

So, the people of Mumbai formed a human chain on 1st September around the barricaded site for Metro 3 car shed asking to stop cutting of trees.

300 people from all age groups took part in the chain.
 	People left behind Ganesha Chaturthi preparations to show their support towards protecting nature.
 	Despite the rain, people stood firmly with umbrellas in hand.

This protest has not yielded any results for now.

Let us hope that metro authorities will drop their decision of cutting trees.
