PM Modi calls a meeting of the presidents of all parties on 19th JunePrime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting of the presidents of all political parties on 19th June 2019.

Out of the 40 invited, 21 party presidents attended the meeting.

The meeting was set up to discuss a number of issues which included:

The issue of 'One Nation, One Election'.
 	Celebration of 75 years of India's Independence in 2022.
 	Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth celebrations this year, on 2nd October.

What does 'One Nation, One Election' mean?

This refers to a system where elections take place at both the centre and state levels at the same time.

Elections all over the country at the same time would be less expensive and time consuming to conduct.
 	However, regional parties would lose out with this system as people tend to vote for the same party at the centre as well as state levels.

Not everybody was in agreement about One Nation, One Election.

The Prime Minister has, therefore, set up a committee to examine the issue and give suggestions.
