The second edition of the Khelo India Winter Games

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second Khelo India Winter Game in Gulmarg, Kashmir. He said that the event is a step towards making Jammu and Kashmir a centre of winter sports.

The Games will go on till 2 March. Around 1200 athletes from 27 states and Union Territories are competing in the Games. They will compete in sports like skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey, and ice skating.

Bharat Bandh today

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) called for an all India bandh (strike) today. They are protesting against rising fuel prices, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the new e-Way bill, a permit associated with the movement of goods.

Around 40,000 trade associations have extended their support. The All India Transporters Welfare Association and farmers’ unions are also supporting the bandh.

Cheaper flight tickets for passengers without check-in baggage

Flight passengers in India can now get a discounted ticket if they do not have check-in baggage or no luggage at all. To get the discount, passengers will have to declare the weight of baggage they will be carrying. This declaration must be made at the time of the booking of the ticket.

Per the current rules, a passenger can carry up to 7 kilograms of cabin baggage and 15 kilograms of check-in baggage.

COVID-19 update

India has provided 361.94 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines to various countries. Out of them, 67.5 lakh doses have been supplied as grant assistance (donation) and 294.44 lakh sold.

India recorded over 16,000 fresh cases today. Till now, about 1.07 crore people have recovered from the disease.

Schools are slowly opening across states in India. Telangana opened schools for classes 6 to 8 from today. Punjab says schools will remain open even as cases are increasing in the state.
