PM Modi launches new Rewa Solar Power Plant in Madhya Pradesh

Recommended for India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 750-megawatt Rewa Solar Power Plant. It is located in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.

The Rewa plant consists of three solar power generating units of 250 megawatts (MW) each. They are located on a 500-hectare plot of land inside a 1,500-hectare solar park.

As we are aware, solar power is the conversion of energy from sunlight into electricity. This plant is expected to reduce the country’s carbon dioxide emissions. The emissions are caused by non-renewable energy sources like coal or oil. The project is a step toward India’s target of installing 175 gigawatts of renewable energy by the year 2022.

The solar plant was set up by the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited. The Rewa solar power plant is the first project to get funding from The World Bank and Clean Technology Fund in India. It has also received funds from the central government.

What about India’s other solar plants?

India’s current largest solar plant is the Bhadla Solar Park in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. It has a capacity of 2,250MW. It is also the world’s biggest solar park in terms of generation of power. It is the second-largest in terms of area.

The Pavagada plant in Tumkur, Karnataka is the second largest, with a capacity of 2,000MW.

The third-largest solar plant in India is the 1,000MW Ultra Mega Solar Park in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
