Police rescue Lakshmi, Delhi’s last elephantLakshmi, Delhi's last elephant was rescued by the police and sent to a rehabilitation centre in Haryana on 18th September, Wednesday.

The 35-year-old elephant was reported missing on 6 July after its mahout/caretaker fled with it.
 	Police said that a complaint was filed after the forest department team said that they were attacked while rescuing the elephant from Yamuna Khadar area in July.
 	She has been missing for more than 2 months.
 	She was finally rescued by Delhi Police on 17th September, Tuesday from the banks of the Yamuna river.
 	Police have arrested the caretaker.

Lakshmi seemed happy as she trumpeted on arriving at the Ban Santour elephant rehabilitation centre in Haryana.

This centre is located in a 400-acre forested land in Haryana’s Yamunanagar.
 	Wildlife SOS and the state forest department run this centre.
 	Lakshmi was fed, bathed and examined by a team of veterinarians (animal doctors).
 	Officials said she appeared weak and will be under observation for a few days.
 	She has been renamed, Jasmine.

Good news is that the gentle giant will no longer be required to carry heavy loads on Delhi streets!
