Pramod Sawant (BJP MLA and erstwhile Speaker of Goa legislative assembly), has been sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Goa.

His appointment has happened due to the demise of Manohar Parrikar and vacancy of the Chief Minister's post in Goa.
 	He took oath along with his two deputies on 19th March at the Governor’s House, Goa. This is the first time any state has got two Deputy Chief Ministers.
 	The two Goa Deputy Chief Ministers who were sworn in are:

Sudhin Dhavalikar of the MGP (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party) and
 	Vijay Sardesai of the GFP (Goa Forward Party)

Pramod Sawant:

Dr. Pramod Pandurang Sawant was Born on 24th April 1973.
 	He is an Ayurvedic medicine graduate from Ganga Education Society, Kolhapur. He completed his post graduation in social work from Tilak Maharashtra University.
 	He is a two-time MLA from Sankhalim in North Goa.
 	He was serving as the Speaker of Goa legislative assembly.
 	He is largely known for his simplicity. His wife Sulakshana is a teacher and a BJP leader too.

Challenges and Expectations:

The challenge is to lead a coalition (where 2 or more parties work together to form the government because no party has won majority by itself).The Goa Assembly has 36 MLAs at the moment with 4 MLA seats vacant. BJP has no majority of its own but has managed to get supporters to form the majority coalition.

BJP has 12 seats.
 	MGP and GFP have 3 seats each and are supporting the BJP
 	An additional 3 independents have also supported BJP.
 	This takes total tally of BJP and its supporters to 21 out of 36.

The new coalition led by Dr Pramod Sawant will have to undergo a floor test (voting in assembly about how many members are for or against the coalition) today to prove their majority.
 	To fit in to the shoes of Late Manohar Parrikar, who was a widely accepted leader across party lines including the opposition, will be a challenging task.
