Pratyush and Mihir, India’s supercomputers rank in top 100

Pratyush and Mihir, India’s supercomputers rank in top 100Say hello to Pratyush and Mihir - India's fastest supercomputers. They are also part of the 100 most powerful systems in the world.

Last year, Pratyush was ranked 45, while Mihir was at the 73rd place. However, this year they are at 53rd and 100th place respectively.
 	With technology evolving so quickly, they might have lost their places from last year, but they still are super fast.
 	The huge processing power in these two systems allows for lots of data to be analysed simultaneously.
 	That's why they are used to study rain patterns, earthquakes, air quality and other weather conditions -- something that a standard computer can't do.
 	Pratyush is installed at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in Pune. 
 	The supercomputer is equipped with a 4.0 petaflop array of processors dedicated to weather and climate analysis.
 	Mihir is installed at the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting in Noida. Its capacity is 2.8 PetaFlops.
 	A petaflop is a measure of a supercomputer's processing speed. It can perform one quadrillion (1 with 15 zeros) floating-point operations per second or FLOPS.
 	For Pratyush, multiply that by 4.0. In simpler terms, it's very very fast!

India is the fourth country in the world to have high-performance computing facilities like Pratyush and Mihir dedicated for weather and climate research after Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom.
