You may have read about the Atacama Desert in Chile, South America. It is one of the driest places in the world and is home to many of the world's largest and best telescopes to study space.

Recently, scientists in Chile have rediscovered a species of frog that was not been seen for 80 years. It was found in a tiny hot spring oasis in the Atacama Desert. An oasis is a green area in a desert where water is found.

This frog is called Hall's water frog, It was named after an American researcher called Frank Gregory Hall who discovered the species in 1935.

Scientists are working to find out more about the frog. They want to know how different and how rare is the frog.

Scientists also want to ensure that its habitat (the place where it lives) is protected.
What do we know about this rare water frog rediscovered recently?
Female Hall's water frogs are about 1.7–2.2 inches in length. No male frog has ever been caught. They are strictly aquatic (live only in water) and can survive on land for only five minutes.
