Record eight winners of US National Spelling Bee 2019

Record eight winners of US National Spelling Bee 2019History was created at the Scripps National Spelling Bee on 30th May 2019, when not one, but eight children were declared winners from a total of 562 contestants.

The historic result was announced as the event organisers ran out of challenging words.

The eight winners of the 92nd annual event held in Washington DC, comprised of 6 teenagers of Indian origin.

The championship normally awards a prize of $50,000 to the winner. This year, all eight finalists will receive $50,000 each, instead of splitting the prize.

What is the purpose of the US National Spelling Bee competition?

To help students improve their spelling,
 	Increase their vocabularies
 	Develop correct English usage
 	It also connects them to various languages and cultures of the world.

Balu Natarajan was the first South Asian-American to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 1985.
