Russia saves cosmonauts & destroys space equipment!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Russia intentionally destroyed its crippled space shuttle in order to return its cosmonauts to Earth. The Russian space agency is planning to dispatch a rescue ship on 24 February.

What is Roscosmos?

Russia’s space programme is overseen by Roscosmos, officially the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities.

The rescue ship intends to bring three astronauts whose return vehicle had been damaged by a meteoroid back to Earth.

Simultaneously, Russia successfully brought down its space shuttle in a controlled manner over the Pacific Ocean over the weekend.

Key facts!

  • This space shuttle is named “Progress MS-21.”
  • In October of 2022, the Progress cargo spacecraft successfully docked at the International Space Station (ISS).
  • On February 11, 2023, it was discovered that there was a leak in the capsule, which was already loaded with waste, which led to the loss of coolant.
  • The space agency has also delayed the launch of another spacecraft (Soyuz MS-23).
  • A coolant leak had been discovered on a supply ship that was parked at the International Space Station (ISS).
  • According to the space agency, the Soyuz MS-23 had undergone a thorough inspection, and there was no evidence of any damage.
  • This information was provided by the Russian space agency.
