Samsung stops making phones in China

Samsung stops making phones in ChinaRecently, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd announced that it has ended its mobile production in China.

The shutdown of Samsung’s last phone factory in China comes after it cut production at the plant in Huizhou city in June 2019. It says that it will shift production to other locations, depending on the requirement.
 	It follows other manufacturers who have also stopped production in China due to rising labour costs and the economic slowdown.
 	Samsung has also been facing strong competition in China's smartphone market from Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Huawei.

The Huizhou factory was built in 1992. It employed around 6,000 workers and produced 63 million units in 2017. Since then, Samsung has also expanded its factories to other countries like Vietnam and India.

Another smartphone manufacturing company, Sony, has also said that it is closing its factories in China and shifting production to Thailand.

However, Apple continues to manufacture its major products in China.
